Battery Recycling and Hanger Recycling Plymouth
Battery Recycling and Hanger Recycling Locations in Plymouth
When we first moved here from The States six months ago I could not figure out where to take our used batteries (from our torch or battery-operated toothbrushes) for recycling. It took me a long time to figure it out and I had to keep my eyes open but I finally discovered where to take them: Tesco’s or The Co-Operative Stores both have used battery recycling containers where you can just drop them off. At Tesco’s Transit Way location in Plymouth it is located near the tills on your way out of the store and at The Co-Operative Store at Crownhill Plymouth they have a cardboard box to collect them it at the till.
Best of all, there is now a used clothes-hanger recycling container in the entry area area of the Plymouth Transit Way location of Tesco’s. Brilliant! I am a great believer in recycling as much of our waste as possible and respecting the green and pleasant land that I now call my home. I just don’t know why it was so hard to discover where these recycling collection points were located.

Plymouth Dog Licencing
So, Plymouth, there is going to be a £500 dog licence scheme to insure dog owners if their sweet little doggie bites someone… Is that a Labour government proposition? What a great idea – we will soon be a nation of cat lovers.
The way I see it is this – Dangerous Dogs in Plymouth are often castrated to keep them calm to be honest if I was castrated I’d be far from calm.
My solution would be to leave their balls alone and, instead, take their teeth out instead. Bite problem resolved and a happy dog
Plymouth Vegans
Vegans, teetotallers and atheists are to be given the same protection against discrimination as religious groups, under Harriet Harman’s controversial new equality laws.
People who do not eat meat and fish products and refuse to wear leather have been singled out for inclusion under the new legislation by Labour’s super-quango – the Equalities and Human Rights Commission
=> This is one thing I agree with – I’m a Vegan, Tee Total, Atheist so why can’t I have the same rights as other nut jobs? I’m nuts – fair enough but so are most meat chomping, bible bashing piss artists….

Mutley Plain Closed
Essential gas mains work on Mutley Plain
Motorists are being warned that Mutley Plain is to be closed to all traffic except buses later this month while essential gas mains work is carried out by Wales and West Utilities.
As a statutory undertaker Wales and West has a responsibility to notify the highway authority (in this case Plymouth Transport and Highways) of any proposed works, to enable the highway authority to have an input into proposed traffic management plans and the timing of the works.
The utility company says the work, which involves installing 500 metres of new gas pipe, must be carried out to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to residents and businesses in the area. This section of the gas pipe has suffered a number of repairs in recent years, each time causing intermittent but necessary disruption to traffic, and is now being replaced.
It will be done in a rolling programme which will begin on Monday 15 March in Moor View Terrace before extending onto the southbound side of Mutley Plain from Monday 22 March and will take up to seven weeks to complete.
The southbound carriageway of Mutley Plain will be closed to general traffic from Monday 22 March for the duration of the works, estimated to be seven weeks. The northbound carriageway will remain open, but for buses only. Buses will be able to travel in both directions along this carriageway but will not be stopping on Mutley Plain itself. Temporary stops will be installed where possible around the works. For safety reasons other vehicles cannot use this piece of highway at the same time.
All other vehicles heading in and out of the city will be diverted via Outland Road and Alma Road. This route will be clearly signposted, along with local traffic diversions.
Wales and West Utilities project supervisor Mike Miller said: “We have been working closely with Plymouth City Council and I have contacted local residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity to notify them of the impending work. Advance notice road signs are also being deployed, indicating that work will begin on Monday 15 March.”
Wales and West will facilitate deliveries to Mutley Plain businesses where possible.

Well it’s in it’s second day…
What do you think? Bit of a lively discussion going on at the Herald Online – Have your say here and don’t get moderated
Personally I reckon it’s got a long, long way to go to beat Gordon Sparks, Judi Spiers and Calvie for sounding like real people on the end of the microphone.

Seth Lakeman
Seth Lakeman set for University of Plymouth show
Seth Lakeman is set to return to the West Country this spring for a show at the University of Plymouth’s Main Hall.
It’s almost a year since Seth last played a gig in the city when he performed a storming sell-out intimate show at the White Rabbit.
This time around, as well as performing songs from his three hit albums, Seth and his band will be parading tracks from their new long player, Hearts and Minds, which is due out sometime in April/May.
The record follows his chart-stormer Poor Man’s Heaven which, unbelievably for a folk album, clocked in at number eight in the national chart in the summer of 2008.
The album represented a progression for Lakeman – while remaining firmly rooted in folk, it moved him from his more acoustic based sound, to a fuller and rockier one, underpinned as ever by emotive lyrics and storytelling.
It was also the closest representation on record of Seth’s live show yet, capturing the rhythmic, raw energy seldom seen in any other acoustic band.
Prior to that, Seth’s 2006 album, Freedom Fields, won Album of the Year at the prestigious Radio 2 Folk Awards, shifting over 100,000 copies in the UK alone.
In fact it’s been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride for our local hero, ever since he recorded his Mercury-nominated album Kitty Jay in his brother Sean’s kitchen for just £300!
Seth Lakeman hits the University of Plymouth on April 17. Tickets are available from www.seetickets.com priced £16 or by calling Plymouth Music Collective on 01752 225884.
